The future's so bright...I gotta get new windows

I just love innovations like this one; a commonsense solution that still makes me say "Wow!"

A company called Octillion Corporation is patenting a technology that uses nanosilicon photovoltaic solar cells that can change ordinary glass windows into lean, mean, solar power making machines.

The luminescent nanoparticles of silicon are 1-4 nanometers in diameter, (a nanometer is one billionth of a meter). Thin films of these particles are sprayed onto silicon substrates, where ultraviolet light is absorbed and converted into electrical current. Octillion has integrated films of silicon nanoparticles on glass surfaces, without losing significant transparency. Let the sun shine in!
