BP plans more wind projects for USA

More wind on the way: BP Alternative Energy North America is planning 5 new wind projects in the U.S. in 2007, reports Renewable Energy Access. The wind farms will be located in California, Colorado, North Dakota, and Texas. The total generating capacity of 550 megawatts (MW) is more than the 450 MW the company had planned by the end of 2008.

BP's wind portfolio includes nearly 100 projects with the potential of 15,000 MW, enough to power over 11 million homes. BP has a strategic alliance with California-based Clipper Windpower to supply wind turbines over the next five years. Last year, BP acquired the wind development companies Greenlight Energy Inc and Orion Energy LLC.
