Business partners with local governments to encourage solar

This is an interesting partnership between business and local government. Spectrum Energy Inc. has signed a deal with the cities of Pleasanton and Livermore, California, to encourage residents to install install renewable energy systems. Spectrum will develop and propose a design for a community-wide system for residents and businesses wanting to install solar energy.

This user-friendly plan will allow those interested to go to city hall and get a renewable energy converter kit for their home. Property owners could find out if their roof is suitable for solar panels, availability of rebates, and vendors to install the system.

The idea for the program came after a presentation by the Marin County-based Cooperative Community Energy. Spectrum Energy hopes to add other cities to its program in the future.
