Vestas announces location of first U.S. blade plant

Vestas Wind Systems (VWSYF), the Danish manufacturer and seller of wind turbines, has announced that their first U.S.-based blade production facility will be located Windsor, Colorado.

The total investment, including production equipment, land, and buildings will total around $60 million. From the news release:

“We are extremely excited that Vestas has chosen the State of Colorado for its first production facility in the USA,” says Bill Ritter, Governor of the State of Colorado and continues: “This is a perfect example of how we are going to build a new energy economy here in Colorado and establish the state as a national and world leader in renewable energy.”
Construction will begin this spring and the plant's opening is scheduled for early 2008. The facility will crank out about 1,200 blades each year and employ around 400 people.
