Jack Bauer Tortures Global Warming

The super-popular Fox series "24" (starring Kiefer Sutherland as agent Jack Bauer) plans to become the first TV production ever to have its season finale be carbon neutral. The show will implement energy efficiency measures and cut its carbon emissions over the course of filming Season 7 so that the production of the season finale won't spew any extra global warming pollution.

To cut emissions, 24 plans to:
  • Use biodiesel to power generators and production vehicles
  • Run all on-stage production activities on green power
  • Integrate fuel-saving and low-emission hybrid vehicles into the production fleet
  • Rewire an entire stage to use electric power (which will be purchased green power), rather than diesel-generated power
I'm a huge 24 fan, so this is really exciting to me. A big part of 24's plan is also to educate its huge audience (from the press release):
"When appropriate, [24 will be] incorporating the issue of global warming and the importance of carbon emission reduction into storylines."
24's carbon reduction move isn't going to save the world, but its apparent commitment to educating its large audience is impressive.
