It started at 3:45AM Saturday morning with my husband Joram and I running for our lives down into the basement, positive that a tornado was ripping our house to shreds. It wasn't a tornado, but some 70-80 mph winds that did some nice damage to our neighborhood. Just before we sprinted for cover, we saw a wall of debris come flying at our bedroom window (it was bright as day with all the lightning), green flashes from electric poles going down, and then a roar of what sounded like a freight train coming at us. Quite scary.
We lost the only big tree in our front yard, which stinks. My Honda Accord was heroic, as you can see below, when it threw the tree from its hood. Hopefully the car's not dead.
I must give big kudos to the St. Paul Fire Department, Police Department, and Xcel Energy, which all did a fantastic job responding to the storm. The fire and police department were out on the streets really fast and Xcel was working late into the night last night to get our power back on. Thanks!
