My Unplanned, Exciting Weekend

It started at 3:45AM Saturday morning with my husband Joram and I running for our lives down into the basement, positive that a tornado was ripping our house to shreds.

It wasn't a tornado, but some 70-80 mph winds that did some nice damage to our neighborhood. Just before we sprinted for cover, we saw a wall of debris come flying at our bedroom window (it was bright as day with all the lightning), green flashes from electric poles going down, and then a roar of what sounded like a freight train coming at us. Quite scary.

We lost the only big tree in our front yard, which stinks. My Honda Accord was heroic, as you can see below, when it threw the tree from its hood. Hopefully the car's not dead.

That little shed did a back flip over the
chain link fence to end up in our yard.

I must give big kudos to the St. Paul Fire Department, Police Department, and Xcel Energy, which all did a fantastic job responding to the storm. The fire and police department were out on the streets really fast and Xcel was working late into the night last night to get our power back on. Thanks!

This is where it got weird. This truck topper came from half-way
down the block, apparently flying over 2 other cars along the way
and landed with such speed that it wedged itself beneath my
car tires?!

Wow, that's some wild late summer storm!

We've been getting nailed down here in our corner of Nebraska as well. Had a round of our own brand of 70mph winds here Sunday afternoon, but nothing personally damaged outside of a couple small branches off of a few trees. The corn fields for several miles around us, on the other hand, look like somebody attempted to do a little steamrolling!

Glad you're OK. And thanks for the geothermal info.

It sounds terrifying. I'm glad you're all OK. Did the Honda pull through?!

It did! I got it back yesterday after 3 1/2 weeks of repairs. It was 91% on the way to being totaled...I'm really glad it's not though, I love that car.
