Terminology Tuesday: T5 Lighting

"T5" is a term for a narrow-diameter (5/8") fluorescent light tube. Standard 1" fluorescent tubes are sometimes called T8s.

T5 lights can be 3-4 times more efficient than a standard fluorescent bulb of similar wattage, so you're getting more light output per watt of energy used. According to the organization Focus on Energy, a total savings of about 15 percent is typical based on increased bulb efficiency and reducing the number of fixtures required.
