Energy Biz Loop

This is a new Maria Energia series on the latest I've heard on energy news, projects, and PR.

  • Xcel Energy (XEL) is spending $23 million of its Renewable Energy fund on 22 different renewable energy projects that include solar, wind, biomass, hydropower, and biofuels. Over 100 proposals were reviewed before the final 22 were selected. via Earth2Tech
  • Honeywell (HON) and Arnot Ogden Medical Center in NY have a $4 million contract to help the medical center cut global warming emissions with renewable energy technology. A wood chip-fired boiler is a big solution provide a sufficient energy source that is expected to save the Arnot Ogden more than $535,000 in energy and operation costs and save more than 9.5 million pounds of carbon dioxide per year (about the same as taking 970 cars off the road). via CNNMoney
  • Nova Scotia is planning the biggest wind power investment in 15 years. About 240 megawatts (MW) of wind power representing more than $500 million in turbines and construction will quadruple the amount of wind energy in the Canadian province. via Renewable Energy Access
