Solar America Cities Named

The Energy Department just announced twelve U.S. cities chosen to be "Solar America Cities."

They'll receive $200,000 to implement solar energy technologies and $3 million to promote solar to residents and businesses, as well as integrate it with the city's energy planning, zoning and facilities.

The cities are:
  • Minneapolis-St. Paul
  • Denver
  • Houston
  • Knoxville, TN
  • Milwaukee
  • Orlando
  • Philadelphia
  • Sacramento
  • San Jose, CA
  • Santa Rosa, CA
  • San Antonio
  • Seattle
The Solar America Cities program is an initiative to support President Bush's goal of making photovoltaic solar power cost-competitive with more typical power sources by 2015.
