Fox is making the two-night finale of American Idol run on renewable energy. The shows (airing May 20 and 21st) will be powered by a combination of solar, wind and hydropower as part of News Corp's greater effort to become carbon-neutral by 2010.
Fox worked with the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power to buy renewable energy to power the Nokia Theater in LA. There's also going to be a solar panel system in the media arrivals area to add to the clean power mix. After the shows, the system will be donated to a local school through the Solar 4 R Schools program.
I hope to see a message of renewable energy during the final shows, actually educating the audience on what's happening with global warming and what can be done to slow it. I don't think I have the stamina to sit through the entirety of the two-part finale, but I will be looking for a renewable energy message with the trusty fast-forward button on my DVR!!
