Clean Energy Quick Clicks

The U.S. house passed the Renewable Energy Job and Creation Act of 2008 (HR 6049) this week, 263-160. It will extend the production tax credit (PTC) for wind power, 30 percent investment tax credit for solar power and certain fuel cell materials, and the 10 percent investment tax credit for microturbines through 2014. Incentives for biomass, geothermal, landfill gas and other renewable technologies get a three year extension. The question of how to fund the bill could get the bill stuck in the Senate, and Bush has threatened to veto it. via Renewable Energy World
  • Minnesota passed and Governor Pawlenty (R) signed a bill increasing the state's biodiesel blend requirement from 2 percent to 20 percent by 2015. via Renewable Energy World
  • Engineers in Nigeria are stepping up to devise a plant to deliver energy to 85 million more residents by 2012, with a particular emphasis on renewables. Currently more than 60 percent of the country doesn't have access to the power grid. via EcoWorldy
